Kortman Electric, Inc. – Established March 1, 1983

The Past:
Roger Kortman, the original founder and owner of Kortman Electric, has a long history in the electrical industry. Little did he know that this history would bring the experience, confidence and passion to some day build his own company. Roger’s electrical career started out of as a summer job in the 1950’s that was confidently communicated as “temporary” to his father, who was also an electrician. This “temporary” summer job soon turned permanent and the years and experience produced continued opportunities for advancement. From 1971 to 1982 Roger managed Liberty Electric, a well established electrical firm in Phoenix. When Liberty Electric sold to a new investor, this provided the opportunity for Roger to establish Kortman Electric.

The Start:
On March 1, 1983, Roger and his son Ken started with a truck, some tools and the kitchen table for an office. One of the first projects was a small mini-storage in Apache Junction, which during the early days was a long drive out Apache Boulevard. Several small projects and twelve months of long hours brought first year sales to a little over three hundred thousand dollars. The next couple of years continued to bring increase sales and new opportunities. Roger’s other two sons also joined the Kortman team during this time.

The Growth:
A healthy economy continued to bring new opportunities each year. As Arizona’s population increased, Kortman Electric’s opportunities for school construction became a catalyst for continued growth. The company expanded in both project size and number of employees. During the mid 90’s, several key people joined the Kortman team, and the majority of them continue to provide their expertise today. In the year 2000, Roger and his wife Pat, retired from Kortman Electric, and the 2nd generation welcomed the opportunity to continue the legacy and success into the 21st century.

The Present:
Kortman Electric has continued its growth and now manages over one hundred employees. Kortman Electric provides a variety of commercial services in design and construction including education, municipal, medical, correctional, office and retail, tenant improvement and fire alarm retrofit projects. Kortman Electric also provides services and expertise including conceptual design and budgeting, design-bid-build, design-build, CMAR and pre-construction services. Kortman Electric is committed to being an asset for its clients, helping them achieve the best value for their investment today and in the future.
